The CWS Environmental Initiative

The Environmental Initiative is a Board- and Faculty-approved initiative aimed at integrating environmental awareness and action into our school community in a systemic way. Its goal is to build environmental awareness, knowledge, and effective action into every aspect of the CWS community. The goal encompasses both what we do as an institution and the ways in which we learn and act as community members. The hope is that each family will be able to find their own path to environmental stewardship and, at the same time, the school will work steadily toward operating in the most environmentally friendly way that it can—from right materials/reuse/recycling to assessing any future campus against specified environmental criteria. As a committee, there will be three key steps to this process. The first is to raise awareness, the second is to make knowledge accessible, and the third is to support and empower action.

We meet the first Wednesdays of the month at 7 pm for an hour and a half. If you have an interest in any area of the environment or sustainable living, we would love to hear from you. If you are interested and can't make the meetings, there is work you can do as well! Even if you don't join the committee, your suggestions and comments are always welcome. Contact Kathleen or John at 561-1420.
