Waldorf curriculum closeup: morning outdoor play

Daily, outdoor play (in all types of weather) is an integral part of the Waldorf Kindergarten experience.  Here, children begin their school day in the Natural Play Space. This area is designed to allow children the opportunity to create their own play outdoors.  Logs, stumps, puddles, leaves, acorns and sticks become rocket ships, bridges, castles, and treasures. These activities give children the opportunity to enhance their imaginations, critical thinking skills, gross motor skills and sensory integration skills.

Early Childhood Nature Experiences include…

  • Natural materials for playthings and crafts
  • Seasonal Nature Tables
  • Seasonal Songs during circle time
  • Neighborhood walks
  • Seasonal weekly forest day
  • Natural Play Space
  • Natural light and plants in each classroom
  • Simple garden care: weeding, push reel mowing, planting
