About the event
It is with great joy that we invite you to join us in celebrating our May Festival on Friday, May 3rd. May Day has been celebrated for centuries to herald the arrival of summer, and we are thrilled to be able to enjoy this festival as a whole community once again.
This year’s May Festival will be a beautiful sharing of singing and dancing. Flower crowns, woven ribbons, and the joys of spring will abound on this special occasion.
Please note that this event is weather permitting. In the case of inclement weather, a text will be sent out in advance of the event. Our current rain date is Tuesday, May 7th (again, weather permitting).
Here are a few things to know about this year’s May Festival:
- Flower Crowns: Parents, please consider sending ivy or vinca, ribbons, and/or a bouquet of flowers for crown-making. Look for an email from your class teacher/s with more details. If you would like to volunteer to help the students make crowns, please sign up here.
- Location/Time: All May Day festivities will be held at Ann Becker Park (right around the corner from the school).
- NatureTots, Preschool, and Kindergarten will celebrate from 9-11. Parents will drop children off at the normal time and then head to the park. Children will walk over to the park with their class.
- The celebration for grades 1-12 will begin at 1:30. Each grade will perform before students return to school for dismissal. The grades performance will begin promptly at 1:30, so please plan to arrive 10-15 minutes before the event begins.
- Parking: There is limited parking available at Ann Becker Park. If you are able to leave those spots for those with limited mobility, that is appreciated! There is parking available within a few blocks of the park on Murray, Oak, Chestnut, and Beech Streets. There is also public parking in and around Mariemont Square if you are willing and able to walk a little further.
- Where to stand: During the performances, we ask that parents stand or sit around the outside of the ring of students. The classes will need access to the area around the May Pole for their performance, so families will need to stay on the perimeter. If you would like to sit, please bring a camp chair or blanket.
- Important Rule: Throughout the celebration, the playground equipment will be OFF LIMITS to CWS students. Please take an active role in enforcing this.
- Leaving the event: At the end of the performances, all students will return to school with their classes for a normal dismissal.
Thank you so much for your support of our school. If you have questions, please contact your class teacher or charwood@cinciwaldorf.org. We look forward to seeing you all for this beautiful event!
