Receive a credit of up to $1,500 on your Ohio Taxes!

EveryChildEveryFamily Banner describing how to use tax credits to benefit CWS

Good news CWS families, alumni families, faculty, and friends!

CWS is partnering with EveryChildEveryFamily so that you can designate your Ohio tax dollars to support scholarships for CWS students and families.

Donations up to $750 (individual) or $1,500 (married filing jointly) may qualify for a TAX CREDIT on your Ohio tax return.

This means that, depending on the amount you owe on your Ohio tax return, you could make a gift of up to $1,500 to CWS essentially for free.

And, your gift need only be made by April 15th to qualify you for a tax credit for the previous tax year. So, as long as you haven’t hit “submit” on your taxes for the year, you can still take advantage of this opportunity!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an SGO?
A Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that receives contributions from donors and grants educational scholarships to eligible students in Ohio.

The Cincinnati Waldorf School is a member of the EveryChildEveryFamily SGO (ECEF). Individuals and entities that contribute to the ECEF SGO and designate CWS may receive a tax credit on their Ohio Income Tax Return.

How Does the Tax Credit Work?
The credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction in your state tax liability up to $750 per taxpayer. A married couple filing jointly can make two gifts and claim a credit of up to $1500. To receive the full tax credit, you must have an Ohio tax liability equal to or greater than the amount of the credit.

You will claim this credit when you file your state income tax return. The credit will reduce your state tax liability. If your total tax liability exceeds $750 (single) or $1,500 (married), then you are eligible to contribute up to the maximum and receive the credit. If, however, your tax liability is less than $750 (single) or $1,500 (married), then the tax credit is limited to the amount on line 10 of your Ohio IT 1040. Credits are applied to your tax liability in the order they appear on the Ohio Schedule of Credits.

Who can make a contribution to the SGO?
Parents, grandparents, alumni, friends of the school, community members - anyone who files Ohio State Taxes.

How are scholarship funds distributed to families?
ECEF provides the funds to CWS who uses them for tuition assistance.

When is the last date I can make this contribution?
When you file your Ohio tax return or April 15th.
