Just Dropped: Freedom Song Recordings by the Cincinnati Waldorf Singers!

In the new year, our school community turns to recognize and celebrate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and other Civil Rights leaders. This collection of 'Freedom Songs' draws from the U.S. Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 60s, the African-American spiritual tradition, and the Anti-Apartheid Movement of South Africa in the 20th century. With humility, and great enthusiasm, we present these songs to the world!

Attention CWS Families:

Please Consider Donating to the Spring Benefit

Do you have a handmade item, experience, or service to share?

Each year CWS families donate their talents and treasures to help make the Spring Benefit a success! Examples of items include:

  • A gift card for a service you provide (from massage to cake making),

  • A handmade item (candles, ceramics, woodworking, pottery),

  • Or a stay at a family vacation home or VRBO/AIRBNB property.

Donating an item can be a beautiful way for you to get new customers for your small business, share your talents, or offer something you already have to benefit our school!

Have an item you'd like to donate? Contact Beth McDaniel at bmcdaniel@cinciwaldorf.org.

Join Foundation Studies this Spring!

Foundation Studies, hosted by the Cincinnati Waldorf School, is a 128-hour coursework of anthroposophical studies, focusing primarily on the spiritual-scientific philosophy of Rudolf Steiner, the founder of Waldorf education. It is at once an orientation for those interested in Waldorf education, a prelude to any Waldorf teacher training program, as well as an initiation into practical and spiritual self-development.

Come Spring, we will be taking up Rudolf Steiner's lecture cycle, The Child's Changing Consciousness. This is a seminal series given to a multi-national audience of Waldorf educators and enthusiasts four years after the opening of the first school in Stuttgart, Germany. The text is rich with indications for child development and pedagogy, primarily in early childhood and the grade school years.

Please write with questions or interest to adampetersen@cincinnatiwaldorfschool.org.

Adult Eurythmy with former CWS Faculty Connie Michael

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of the Eurythmy class, the movement with its richness of language and verse has been life giving.  Connie is an excellent teacher, sharing her depth and beauty in this art form of Eurythmy.'' -Kare Egan

Hello fellow Cincinnati Waldorf Community members and alums!

Bio:

My name is Connie Michael. I am a founding member of the CWS Waldorf Grade school, and former Eurythmy teacher for early childhood and grades at the Cincinnati Waldorf School. I have taught children and adults since 1981. I am reaching out to a larger community in hopes of more people benefitting from the experience of Eurythmy for personal and social renewal. I teach on Saturday mornings, 1-3 times a month, in my Clifton Studio.

Benefits of Eurythmy:

We are living in a time of great humanitarian strides and worldly accomplishments in many ways, but we can also experience the stark, lonely feelings of seclusion and isolation in our existence as an individual. Society and culture, as a positive force, can bring an ever changing nurturing force of human encounters, cultivating compassion and empathy in awareness for one another. It can help us learn to rekindle the "love" of the universe from whence we came. The shadow side can be a feeling of being consumed by dark, rigid materialistic outlooks. Eurythmy can transform these shadowy presences on a personal and social level, and alleviate the oppression of them, by giving each individual and groups who work together with this aim, new capacities with which to vitalize our innate, healing life of creative forces and powers.  We CAN re-enter a new experience of social form, and individual health.

Classes are:

For people 16 yrs and older, Saturday mornings in my Clifton studio from 10 to 11 am. It can be your choice to participate as needed, or to join in more often as a committed core group does, that is invested in developing a deepening effect and understanding of Eurythmy. We are considering a future goal of orienting our exercises and pieces into small performances for our annual festivals. I hope that you will consider joining!
