*** THAT TIME OF YEAR ***
It's that time of year when we notice an upswing of illnesses weaving through the school. As a reminder, please do not send sick students to school. We want to minimize spread and help keep our teachers, students, and community healthy. If your student is absent due to illness, be sure your student is well enough to participate in all activities and that they are fever free with improved symptoms for at least 24 hours prior to returning to school. If your child is absent, please notify the class teacher and main office with a reason for absence; otherwise, the absence is unexcused.

Get Your Michaelmas T-Shirt & Other CWS Spiritwear!
We are excited to be working with a new, local spiritwear vendor and have some exciting options to share! Michaelmas shirts are available for order until September 22nd for pick-up at the school starting September 27th! We also have an amazing new volleyball design created by CWS parent Kelly Larbes, so check that out as well. You can access our online store here.
This stunning design is based on a chalk drawing done by Mr. Bustillo for last year's 2nd grade! On the back, it reads:
"Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it." - Nelson Mandella
We also have a friendlier Michaelmas design for young children!
Celebrating Michaelmas: The Festival Feast!
A defining aspect of our Michaelmas celebration for grades 1-12 is a community feast that follows the class performances and a brief work period for students. This feast features apples, veggies, and ... dragon bread with honey butter!!
This year, the third and fourth grade families will be taking up the charge to supply food for the feast, but we still need additional donations from the community!
If you'd like to donate an item for the feast, please sign up here!
Making dragon bread can be a fun family activity — and an amazing contribution to the feast! Online resources abound, but you can also access a recipe and instructions here.
All are welcome to join the Michaelmas Celebration for the Grades (1-12) on Friday, September 29th. Class sharings — including the Michaelmas Play — begin at 1:15, and the feast begins at 2:30. See all the event details here.

Join the PA on 10/2 to Kick Off Preparations for Holiday Faire!
Holiday Faire is one of the most magical and best loved traditions at CWS — and the Parent Association is excited to bring back this event for the enjoyment of our entire Cincinnati Waldorf community! This event has traditionally included food, music, crafts for the children, a Vendor Village, and unique story-led “faire” games like the treasure gnome.
To make this event a success requires the love and commitment of many volunteers, so please consider being part of the planning and preparations. This is a golden opportunity to engage in fun, meaningful work and to get to know and spend time with other parents and meet new people. The Holiday Faire Planning Committee will meet Monday, October 2nd at 2pm in the CWS Community Room. We hope to see you there! You can also sign up to volunteer here.
WECAN Parent Evening: Self-initiated Play
Self-initiated Play: The Beginning of Lifelong Learning and Developing Trust
Presented by Philipp Reubke, Co-Leader of the Pedagogical Section at the Goetheanum.
Why is self-initiated play, beginning in the earliest years, the most appropriate way of developing a long-lasting interest in the changing environment and an active engagement in society? Why it is an excellent support to building self-confidence and trust in life? How can we foster and accompany free play without disturbing the initiative of the child? How can we welcome each child’s initiative while keeping the environment (relatively) harmonious? Philipp Reubke will give examples from his experiences at home and as a kindergarten teacher.
The registration fee is $10 and you can register online through the WECAN bookstore. All who register will receive access to the recording of the evening.
We want everyone to to be able to participate in this evening, if you require financial support please contact Heather Church at hchurch@waldorfearlychildhood.org
NOTE: IF YOU ARE PURCHASING FOR A GROUP: You must provide all of the email addresses of each person attending in the notes on the first page of the checkout.
REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT CLOSES 24 hours before the event begins.
